The Possession Movie 2012: First Look

The Possession is a thriller set to release on August 31st, 2012. We’ve seen our fair share of “girl gets possessed by a demon and goes crazy” movies in the past, so what could this movie possibly do that we haven’t already seen a million times?

Here’s what the Lionsgate, the company in charge of producing and releasing the anticipated horror/thriller film, says it’s about:

“Clyde and Stephanie Brenek see little cause for alarm when their youngest daughter Em becomes oddly obsessed with an antique wooden box she purchased at a yard sale. But as Em’s behavior becomes increasingly erratic, the couple fears the presence of a malevolent force in their midst, only to discover that the box was built to contain a dibbuk, a dislocated spirit that inhabits and ultimately devours its human host.”

From what I understand, this movie is about a little girl who opens an old, wooden box that housed an evil spirit from a previous exorcism and becomes possessed. Yeah, and?

That sounds eerily similar to just about any other film I’ve seen that deals with possession. The only thing new here will be the action sequences and the actors. Yawn.

And get this! It’s supposedly based on a true story! Wowzers!

Every story nowadays seems to be based on a true story. How much of the “true” story did they borrow? The little girl’s name?

Anyway, I’d skip this one. Unless you really have nothing better to do on a Friday night and feel like being scared, I’d go see something else. Why not watch The Dark Knight Rises again?
